Edwards Gardens | Harbourfront | High Park | L'Amoreaux Park | Loretto College | Mount Pleasant Cemetary | Toronto Island | 401/Don Mills Road MUni Area

Edwards Gardens, North York I don't recall this particular one, but there were so many bridges on the bike path.
Outing Category: Paved and leisurely
Official Description: "A former Estate garden featuring perennials and roses on the uplands and wildflowers, rhododendrons and an extensive rockery in the valley." City of Toronto
Reality: Nice paved paths with little dirt. Some wooden and metal bridges to play on. I recall one or two large and steep paved hills, but other than that a pretty tame but nice ride. Connected to a long bike path. Nice picnic facilities but who would carry the food on their uni? Bikes are prohibited within the Garden, but what about unis? The park can get very crowded in the summer, and couples get married here like rabbits have sex.
Where: South west corner of Leslie Street and Lawrence Avenue East. Take 401 to Leslie cutoff, go south past York Mills. Turn right (west) at Lawrence and immediately turn left into the parking lot. Meet near the greenhouse. Map

L'Amoreaux Park, Scarborough
Outing Category: Multi-surface. Something for everyone
Reality: No cars. Paved hills, grass hills, some off-road, more offroad if you want, 4 bridges, baseball diamond with bleachers, 2 playgrounds, picnic area, large dirt/grass downhill area for the brave, 2 open parking lots for practice with no cars, some sheltered, clean paved areas to practice. Large, wooded trails covered with trees with lots of birds. Nice MUni feeling. All free. I estimate approximate time to play in park is 2 hours.
Where: L'Amoreaux Park, Scarborough. Go north on Birchmount, 1 Block North of Finch. Turn right (east) at the first set of lights on L'Amoreaux Drive. There'll be a large park on your left (north) and you'll see the double driveway, which will be locked with a large metal gate. Park on the road and uni your way into the park. Meet in front of the double gate. Map Reference from City of Toronto

401/Don Mills Road MUni Area, North York
Outing Category: Difficult Mountain Unicycle (MUni) ride and trail
Official Description: This place does not exist
Reality: The starting paved bike path gives you a false indication that this ride is going to be easy. Not. The path leads under the 401. A set of wooden stairs on your left side, and a short climb will lead you to a hard packed dirt area. It's challenging but a mostly rideable area of dirt, covered with trees. Watch the tree roots and fallen logs. A loop-de-loop area will test your uni's suspension. Go more east and you'll come to a clearing that marks the circuit. This is very difficult terrain to ride on. Weeds are 3' high and the terrain is grass/weeds with dirt patches. It's very uneven. The circuit goes up to Don Mills road and then turns back to where you started. Watch the traffic zip by on the 401. In the middle there is a very large and imposing hill, with a trail cut out by natural water drainage. The trail is loose gravel and dirt, with deep water grooves. Try it if you dare.
Where: Starting with a paved bike trail you go from your car and under the 401. Continue on the path until you see a set of wooden stairs on your left side. Climb the stairs and continue to climb in. You'll find a challenging but mostly rideable area of hard packed dirt, covered with trees. Continue east and you'll come to a clearing that marks the circuit. The circuit goes up to Don Mills road and then turns back to where you started. In the middle there is a very large and imposing hill, with a trail cut out by natural water drainage. To return go back to the hard packed riding area, and follow any trail downwards. You'll come to the paved bike trail. Follow the path back under the 401 and to your car. Map
Precautions: I recommend all riders wear a helmet and gloves. If you want to ride the circuit, tights to protect your legs from scratches would be good. We should take a whistle and possibly FRS radios so when we want to get everyone together we can whistle. The area is quite large, and there's noise from cars on the 401. If it rains get the hell out of this area because it would get pretty ugly.
